2 Day Aberdeen

Tour Description
Our east coast adventure kicks off with a breathtaking journey over the iconic Forth Bridges, a marvel of engineering, towards the picturesque Kingdom of Fife, renowned for its gently rolling hills and stunning landscapes. Our first stop will be the charming UNESCO-listed village of Falkland. You might recognize this quaint locale as Inverness from the beloved series Outlander. Here, we’ll take a leisurely stroll through the village, soaking in its historic charm and perhaps even catching a glimpse of the gorgeous palace.
Continuing our journey, we’ll make our way through the lush, green expanses of Fife before crossing the sparkling waters of the River Tay into the vibrant city of Dundee. This city is brimming with cultural attractions, including the stunning V&A Museum, a spectacular architectural wonder dedicated to design and creativity. Not far from here, we’ll explore the illustrious RRS Discovery, a historic steamship that once ventured into the icy Antarctic waters, now proudly moored in its custom-built dock, serving as a testament to human exploration.
Our next destination is the awe-inspiring Dunnottar Castle, perched dramatically atop rugged cliffs, overlooking the crashing waves of the North Sea. This stunning fortress, which inspired Merida’s home in Disney’s Brave, boasts a rich history dating back to the 14th century, with some parts originating as early as 500 BC. As we wander through its ancient ruins, we’ll hear tales of how it valiantly protected against Viking invasions. To conclude our exhilarating day, we’ll head to the vibrant city of Aberdeen, where an array of lively nightlife options and mouthwatering restaurants await.
On day two, our adventure continues with a visit to the impressive 16th-century Crathes Castle, a fairy-tale structure surrounded by enchanting walled gardens and guarded by ominous gargoyles. The estate is a haven for wildlife, so watch for deer gracefully roaming the grounds, squirrels darting playfully among the trees, and pheasants strutting proudly in their colorful plumage.
We’ll then journey through the stunning landscapes of Royal Deeside, where quaint Victorian villages dot the scenery, and we’ll stop for a delightful lunch in the heart of the majestic Cairngorms. After lunch, we’ll proceed to Balmoral Castle, the Royal family’s beloved holiday retreat. Built by Queen Victoria in the 1850s, this grand residence invites you to experience royal life firsthand. Marvel at the exquisite artwork displayed within its elegant rooms or meander up to Prince Albert’s Cairn, one of only three pyramids in Scotland, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
As we make our way back to Edinburgh, we’ll stop at the hauntingly beautiful Loch Leven Castle, a starkly different royal abode with a complex history as the imprisonment site of Mary Queen of Scots. You can choose to explore the castle itself or enjoy a peaceful afternoon birdwatching, as Loch Leven is home to Scotland’s largest population of ducks and a myriad of other enchanting bird species that inhabit its serene surroundings.
